Setting Up / Changing the LiveWest BC Emergency status message
Getting a recording.
- Get somebody official to script the required message.
- Recording (see below) – This needs to be a .wav audio file for the systems to use.
- Get someone to record the message, preferably Kim Forbes a.k.a. “The Voice”. If not, then make sure the selected person is in a quiet space and talking into a headset or phone handset (can be done from a mobile but quality is not so good).
- Once recorded download the recording to a .wav. Listen to it to make sure it is clear, it is easier to get it re-recorded straight away than sorting it out again.
- If it needs editing, for instance to remove long pauses, use Audacity.
- Put the file where it can be uploaded to the chosen platform.
- Upload, save, then call the number chosen and make sure it is properly in place.
Recording – my easiest method. (If you have another way that is easy to use then that is the easiest)
- Log into your Mitel extension and put it into a mode that forwards straight to voicemail. I have my “Custom Mode” set to forward to voicemail with a subject of “recording prompts”. The recorder can now call your DDI and follow the voicemail instructions to leave a message. Remember to switch the mode back afterwards.
- Go to your voicemails, review the message. If good, right click and select “Download Voicemail as .wav”.
Recording if you have nothing but a laptop.
Open Audicity, record message, go to file menu and export as .wav file. (suitably cropped)
If you don’t have Audacity on your laptop, add it, it is an optional intune app.
Uploading to MyInbound and making live

Username is dchtph, password is in Dashlane.
At the “Welcome” screen choose “Point my number” on the left.
Choose 03003038030 and click the eye icon to open it up.
I have setup the call plan for an emergency but it will need the message adding. Click on the eye to edit.
Currently the Announcement inside “Open here and save” is the no emergency one. Click on the icon and choose the pencil from the 6 options to edit.
Click on the megaphone button to choose a greeting or to upload a new recording ready.
Follow the instructions to upload the greeting/message that you previously recorded, please give it a sensible name and description. Once it is saved you can click close, then from the previous screen choose the announcement from the drop-down menu. It took maybe 30 secs to show in the list.
Once you have closed the dialogue boxes, click Validate, top left, to ensure it is set up correctly.
If you wish to activate now then click “Activate” otherwise click close and you can then go back in and activate it when ready.
Finally call the number to test your changes have worked.
